An aerial view of the badly listing freighter "Flying Enterprise". This is the sixth day that Captain Carlsen has remained aboard his ship drifting in the Atlantic about 300 miles south west of the English coast. Messages received from the U.S. destroyer standing by indicate that Capt. Carlsen is determined to stay on board until the ship is safely in port. A further message gave the Flying Enterprise as still listing 60 to 65 degrees to port and down slightly by the head, with rudder and screw clear of water and rudder swinging free. The British salvage tug Turmoil reached the freighter at 2.30 a.m. on 4th January and was preparing to take the ship in tow. January 3, 1952. (Photo by Daily Mail Contract Picture)

Royal Navy First Afloat With Gas Turbine Craft -- Motor Gun-boat 2009 fitted with gas turbine being tried out.The first craft to be powered by a gas turbine has been taken to sea by the Royal Navy. The gas turbine now under trial has been developed for the Admiralty by the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company of Trafford Park, Manchester, and has been installed in H.M. Motor Gunboats 2009, a 110-foot triple-screw craft built by Messrs. Camper Nicholson of Southampton. The Gas Turbine Engine drives the central shaft of the craft and takes the place of one of the three 1250 BHP petrol engines which formerly powered her. September 03, 1947.

Photograph of Andros Trader Near Bimini. This image is one of a set of photographs taken of the fishing vessels involved in a shooting incident 12 March near Bimini. These photos were not released as no Coast Guard action was involved and the vessels were Bahamian and Cuban. The photos were shot with a K-20 aerial camera by an air crewman, and not by one of the rated photographers assigned.

Fifth Night Alone of Drifting Freighter - The "Flying Enterprise" in Heavy Seas. This photo was taken by our Cameraman from a Lancaster Aircraft which flew low over the vessel. Captain Kurt Carlsen, the 36-year-old Danish skipper of the United States freighter "Flying Enterprise" spent a fifth night alone on board his ship last night.Lightning had silenced her radio and she drifted helpless in heavy seas 240 miles south west of Fastnet Rock, Ireland. She had a 60 degree list so that her port rails and Maindeck were awash.The 1,136 ton tug "Turmoil", one of the largest in the world, expects to make contact with the "Flying Enterprise" to-night.
