Ex-Nazi Spy Goes Back To Germany -- Pictured on Board The Liner "Italia" as it calls at Plymouth on its way from New York is former Nazi spy Erich Gimpel (right - in open - necked shirt). After his captured from a U-Boat he escaped and was free for a month in the United States before he was recaptured near New York in 1944. He was sentenced to death but President Roosevelt commuted his sentence to left imprisonment. After serving to 10 years of his sentence, the United States Authorities have ordered him to be deported. He is returning to Western Germany where he hopes to start his life again as a Radio Engineer. On Tuesday he will report to the German authorities in Bonn and find out what the future has in store for him. August 21, 1955. (Photo by United Press Photo).
