Television in the 1930s. A worker at GEC ( General Electric Company of Great Britain ) is testing the main television component, the cathode ray tube in the company's laboratories at Wembley. Much of the work on television at Wembley concentrated on the design of domestic receivers and the use of cathode ray tubes for use in these receivers. This intention was never realised because of the outbreak of the Second world war. All work on television was terminated, not to be re-started until the end

S71-17609 (4 Feb. 1971) --- These two individuals are examining a seismic reading in the Mission Control Center's ALSEP Room during the Apollo 14 S-IVB impact on the moon. Dr. Maurice Ewing (left) is the director of the Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory at Columbia University. David Lammlein, a Columbia graduate student, is on the right. The Apollo 14 Saturn IVB stage impacted on the lunar surface at 1 40 54 a.m. (CST), Feb. 4, 1971, about 90 nautical miles south-southwest of the Apollo 12 passive seismometer. The energy release was comparable to 11 tons of TNT. Dr. Gary Latham of the Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory is the principal investigator for the Passive Seismic Experiment, a component of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package.

Researchers at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory monitor a ramjet's performance in the Altitude Wind Tunnel from the control room. The soundproof control room was just a few feet from the tunnels 20-foot-diameter test section. In the control room, the operators could control all aspects of the tunnels operation, including the air density, temperature, and speed. They also operated the engine or test article in the test section by controlling the angle-of-attack, speed, power, and other parameters. The men in this photograph are monitoring the engines thrust and lift. A NACA-designed 20-inch-diameter ramjet was installed in the tunnel in May 1945. Thrust figures from these runs were compared with drag data from tests of scale models in small supersonic tunnels to verify the ramjets feasibility. The tunnel was used to analyze the ramjets overall performance up to altitudes of 47,000 feet and speeds to Mach 1.84. The researcher

2000 Scientists Trained At "Atom School" -- Master - At the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies is a counter room, where students learn ***** and calibrate the many types radiation-detection instruction ***** radioisotop research.A special radioisotope training program for foreign scientists will be conducted during May by the Institute of Nuclear Studies at the Oak Ridge atomic plant in Tennessee. U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Casco in equatorial Atlantic Ocean, a crew member determines the salt content of the sea water samples with a Salinometer (left).
