He drives an Alfa Romeo, an exotic Italian model with a speed of 140mph. He will retire from racing within the next couple of years, though against his will, because he can't afford it. Young Manly tour- is David Flack (pictured) won a 10/- bet when he stepped off a Qantas plane at Sydney Airport yesterday in this Tyrolean hat. David, who returned from a world tour with his mother, made the bet with a relative before leaving Australia three months ago. "I'm keen on skiing and told my cousin I intended getting myself a Tyrolean "hat in Switzerland to use at Kosciusko,'" he said. "He bet me 10/- I wouldn't be game to wear it off the plane when I returned - and here I am." August

Hooker Alby Stone, a feared and respected figure in Rugby Union matches when he hurls his 15 stone 4lb. into the scrum, became a quiet, shy man when we interview him in the lounge of his Bellevue Hill flat. The hooker has the job of winning the ball from the scrum. Alby tells us. We Haven't seen any other hookers, ***** our money goes on Alby without hesitation. Thirty-two-year-old Alby is playing his last season of Rugby Union. He wants to break the existing record held by Wild Bill Cerutti, who made 247 first-grade appearances. Alby has been playing first grade football for seventeen years, has 244 games to his credit with five rounds to play, as well as semi-finals and finals. August 3, 1947.

Former Olympian Perry, who last night smashed the national two-mile record, running bare-footed at Kardinia Park, Geelong, today announced his engagement to Miss Audrey Treloar. Both work at the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works and both live at Footscray. Perry clipped three seconds off Landy's Australian and Victorian record of 8min. 58.2sec.
