Sampler Made 1793 Pennsylvania. Ann Sellers was the unmarried daughter of Elizabeth Coleman and Nathan Sellers (1751ñ1830), who married on May 4, 1779, in Philadelphia. Although a Quaker, he joined George Washingtonís army and fought in the Revolutionary War. This sampler came from the estate of Mary Morley Sellers (d. 1940). The donorís husband, Frank Harold Sellers (1864ñ1938) was the great-grandson of Coleman Sellers (1781ñ1834)ówho was married to Sophonisba Peale (1786ñ1859), the daughter of the artist Charles Wilson Peale (1741ñ1827)óthe brother of Ann Sellers. The elegant design of the sampler can be attributed to Annís Quaker upbringing. The verse on the sampler is from ìAn Invocation to the Almighty,î attributed to Joseph Brown Ladd (1764ñ1786).. Sampler made at the Moorestown Friends School 1804 Margaret Schanck Made at a Quaker school, Moorestown Friends School, this sampler mourns the loss of the maker's infant sister, Jane. Elizabeth Cowperthwhite, whose name appears at the lower center, was probably Margaret Schanck's sewing teacher. Although this sampler is much more ornate than a simple marking sampler (see 13.69.10 made at the Quaker Westtown School), it has certain decorative motifs, such as the thin leaf and vine border that surounds the central lettering, that are typical of Pennsylvania and New Jersey Quaker samplers.. Photo album of Suriname 1903 - 1910. On the disadvantaged back the part number 4. Part of a group of five albums of the same name Nummerd 1-5. The album contains 24 cardboard sheets with 126 photos stuck on both pages and on the bracts of the album. Some photos are numbered and have a handwritten caption. Of many recordings, the pasted prints are present in duplicate, in black and white and in blue (cyanotype) on the opposite page. Some of the photos are marked with the initials G.B and are largely printed from cracked glass negatives often with missing corners.
