Paving The Way -- Steamroller tactics of a constructive nature are being Used by the Russians to win friends and influence people in Afghanistan. At Kabul, the capital, the Reds are using this fleet of steamrollers to pack the many streets they are paving. City within City In China's New Capital -- This is a part of the huge floating city on the Pearl River in Canton, China. Junks and boats of all sizes and descriptions comprise this cluttered and crowded portion of the new capital of Nationalist China. Dwellers on these boats live a life of their own, having their own restaurants, tea boats, amusements and shopping centers on the water. At the turn of the 20th century, the vast majority of Siamese were rice farmers who lived and worked along waterways. Every household had a boat, an estimated 600,000 of which navigated the canals and rivers of Bangkok. Rowing was done from the back of the boat. Most houses were made from wood and bamboo, and were built on stilts with a ladder running to the water. On the right bank of the river stand tall straight areca palms which provide betel nuts; on the left, coconut palms.
