Range 900,000 miles A brilliant halo around Jupiter, the thin ring of particles discovered by Voyager 1 four months ago, is seen here unusually bright due to forward scattering of the particles within it. Similiarly, the planet is outlined by sunlight scattered toward the spacecraft from a haze layer high in jupiter's atmosphere. The arms of the ring are cut off on each sideby the planet's shadow as they approach the brightly outlined disk. The night side of the planet appears completly dark in this reproduction, but later will be specially reprocessed to search for evidence of lightning sorms and auroras. This 4 image mosaic was obtained with Voyager 2's wide angle camera.

A National Aeronautics and Space Administration Lockhead Electra equipped to acquire black and white, color and color infrared photography and thermal infrared imagery, was used to obtain data over the area in northern Peru which suffered the most severe earthquake damage May 31, 1970. The government of Peru had accepted the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration's offer to send one of its remote sensing aircraft to help assess damage resulting from the recent severe Peruvian earthquake. The data, in addition to helping the Peruvian government assess damage and plan reconstruction, will contribute also to the future application of the science of remote sensing to natural disasters. Color infrared photograph taken about 3000 feet over Yungay. Flow patterns into the mud slide, the lobate margins of the slide, and living trees within the slide area are shown clearly.

Crater Aristarchus, Schroter's Valley, and Vicinity 1967 National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) This photograph was made as part of the Lunar Orbiter program, a series of five unmanned spacecraft launched into orbit around the Moon in 1966 and 1967. Each spacecraft was equipped with a sophisticated imaging system provided by Eastman Kodak, which consisted of a dual-lens camera, film processing and handling units, and a readout scanner for transmitting the images back to Earth. The main purpose of the program was to select lunar landing sites for NASAs manned Apollo Missions. Over the course of one year, the Lunar Orbiters photographed 99 percent of the Moons surface, producing more than 2,000 images of unprecedented clarity and precision. After the film was processed on board the spacecraft, it was scanned in strips and transmitted to Earth via radio. 100,000 kilometers (62,000 miles) This photomosaic of Ganymede, Jupiter's largest satellite, shows many impact craters, some with bright ray systems. The rough mountainous terrain at lower right is the outer portion of a large fresh impact basin which post-dates most of the other terrain. At bottom, portions of grooved terrain transect other portions indication they are younger. This may be the result of the intrusion of new icy material which comprises the crust of Ganymede. The dark patches of heavily cratered terrain (right center) are probably ancient icy material formed prior to the grooved terrain. The large rayed crater at upper center is about 150 kilometers (93 miles) in diameter.
