1st Lt. W.F. Randolph, an instructor at the A.T.S., along with observer 2nd Lt. B.J. Lubin, from the C.A.C., can be seen in this image. They are inside a basket that serves as a new type of parachute. In case of emergency, one would lay inside the basket, pull a rope to detach it from the balloon, and the parachute would open. The photograph was taken in Etalons, Doubs, France on April 5, 1919.
