In October 1940, all the Jews of Warsaw were forced to concentrate in one sector of the city. On the 31st of the same month, the Ghetto was closed. On April 19, 1943, a direct confrontation began with the German Troops that ended with the Symbolic blowing up of the great Synagogue. The ghetto had been reduced to rubble. Thousands of People Perished, Others Were Shot, and Survivors Sent to Concentration Camps.

Evacuation of German Citizens of Baltic States To Occupied Poland, 1939-1940 German citizens of Latvia waiting on the quay in Riga to board a German ship to take them to the Polish Corridor. Soviet Army Parades on Anniversary of Revolution -- Infantrymen marching across Red square in the Parade.A great parade of the Soviet Union's military strength passed Joseph Stalin, Molotov and other Soviet leaders on Red Square, Moscow, in honour of the 22nd anniversary of the October revolution. World War One was to have a devastating impact on Russia. When World War One started in August 1914, Russia responded by patriotically rallying around Nicholas II. Military disasters at the Masurian Lakes and Tannenburg greatly weakened the Russian Army in the initial phases of the war. The growing influence of Gregory Rasputin over the Romanovs did a great deal to damage the royal family and by the end of the spring of 1917, the Romanovs, who had ruled Russia for just over 300 years, were no longer in charge of a Russia that had been taken over by Kerensky and the Provisional Government. By the end of 1917, the Bolsheviks led by Lenin had taken power in the major cities of Russia and introduced communist rule in those areas it controlled. The transition in Russia over the space of four years was remarkable - the fall of an autocracy and the establishment of the worlds first communist government.

About 20,000 Belgian soldiers got across the border into Holland when Antwerp was evacuated.

Troops guarding the Winter Palace before the arrival of Russian workers, marching to hand in a protest to Czar Nicolas II. Around 300 strikers, led by Father Gapon, attended a peaceful protest outside the palace in order to petition Czar Nicholas II about poor working conditions and low wages. Troops opened fire on the demonstrators resulting in over 100 fatalities. January 17th 1905 became known as Red Sunday and was universally regarded as a precursor to the Russian Revolution of 1917.

Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.
