Officers In The Making -- At the W.A.C.(I) O.C.T.U. at Dagshai, in the Himalayan foothills, carefully selected girls from all parts of India who have been through the ranks are trained to become officers. Although most lectures are entirely different, military procedure is followed exactly as in Army O.C.T.U.s so that the girls acquire the art of command. Lectures include administration staff duties, quarter- mastering, ordnance work, management of hostels, welfare, weapons and the functions of the services so that they have an adequate military background for their work.At one of their recreation rooms the cadets have their own shop. The Pegu Range (Burmese: ဲခူးရိုးမ, Pegu Yoma or Bago Yoma) is a range of low mountains or hills and uplands between the Irrawaddy and the Sittaung River in central Burma (Myanmar) and once served as the headquarters of the Communist Party of Burma (CPB). The Communist Party of Burma (Burmese: ဗမာြည်ကွန်မြူနစ်ါတီ; CPB) is the oldest existing political party in Burma. The party is unrecognised by the Burmese authorities, rendering it illegal; so it operates in a clandestine manner, often associating with insurgent armies along the border of People's Republic of China. It is often referred to as the Burma Communist Party (BCP) by both the Burmese government and the foreign media.

Japan surrendered to the Allies in August 1945, and the Vietminh under the leadership of H Chí Minh attempted to take power in a free Vietnam. H was able to persuade Bao Dai to abdicate on 25 August 1945, handing power over to the Vietminh — an event which greatly enhanced H's legitimacy in the eyes of the Vietnamese people. Bao Dai was appointed 'supreme advisor' to H's Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi, which asserted its independence on 2 September 1945, but was ousted by the French in November 1946, leading directly to the First Indochina War and to French defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954.
