Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

The British Occupation of Java Villagers from Tjikalenka are drilled by members of the Indonesian police. Prior to the landing of British troops men from this village had attacked a local Japanese garrison, killing a number of soldiers and disarming the rest. The villagers were soon after disarmed by another Japanese force. Many Indonesians wanted to free themselves of Japanese control prior to the landing of Allied troops as they hoped this would prevent the return of Dutch colonial rule.

MASTER SGT. Charles Ryan, senior drill instructor, prepares to assemble Navy nurse candidates for a drill during a 6-week officer indoctrination course at the Naval Aviation Schools Command (NASC). An overload of students at Newport, R.I. facilities resulted in the transfer of 81 nurses to Pensacola, despite the fact that Navy indoctrination training for nurses is not normally an NASC function. In addition to providing the basics of officer indoctrination, the command is providing the nurses with a better understanding of naval aviation in general.
