This portrait may represent one of the female members of the Hekatomnid dynasty. The series of Dynastic portraits probably stood between the Ionic columns of the peristyle.

George Washington 1795 Giuseppe Ceracchi Italian The Italian-born sculptor Giuseppe Ceracchi came to Philadelphia in 1791 hoping to earn a commission from the United States Congress for a monument commemorating the American Revolution. To demonstrate his skill and attract attention, he modeled portraits from life of George Washington (1732-1799) and other influential Americans, which were later carved in marble. Although Ceracchi did not receive the coveted order from Congress, many of Washingtons contemporaries considered this portrait among the most lifelike to be made. Indeed, in spite of the unfamiliar accoutrements of an ancient Roman military hero, the facial features are distinctly recognizable.. George Washington 192901

Stone head of a Julio-Claudian youth, possibly of Gaius Caesar. Culture: Roman. Dimensions: H.: 9 7/8 in. (25.1 cm)H. of base: 4 7/8 in. (12.4 cm). Date: ca. 5 B.C., or later.The head, traditionally identified as a young Augustus, may now be compared with portraits of his elder grandson, Gaius Caesar (20 B.C.-A.D. 4). He is represented here as an adolescent of about 13 to 15 years of age, thus dating the work (if contemporary) to ca. 7-5 B.C. However, the identity and indeed the authenticity of the present head, like several others identified as Gaius Caesar, remain the subject of scholarly discussion and research. The condition of the stone also contributes to the difficulty in ascertaining whether the head is ancient or a high-quality European reproduction. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
