Sixth Dynasty, sacrificial chamber and wall from the tomb of Manufer, circa 2,335 BC. Facing the entrance gate, a false door, approximately two metres high, stands at the top of a flight of three steps; it is part of the sacrificial chamber of Manufer, chief wig-maker to the king.

Oarsmen and an Official ca. 2465-2458 B.C. Old Kingdom In the upper register, rowers wield their oars, each man with one foot braced on a rail to increase leverage. Lashed to the deck behind them is the ship's cargo, perhaps a large block of stone or an architectural element for a royal construction. The faint shapes of the oar blades beneath the zigzag lines of the water indicate the water's partial transparency. In the lower register, an official wearing a cylinder seal on a cord around his neck seems about to put on another such cord, which he holds in his hands-perhaps an award bestowed by the pharaoh. The small bow in the official's hair and the complex overlay of carved levels in the rowing scene point to a date in the reign of Userkaf.. Oarsmen and an Official 552238

Furniture plaque carved in relief with standing woman ca. 9th-8th century B.C. Assyrian This ivory panel was found in a storage room in Fort Shalmaneser, a royal building at Nimrud that was used to store booty and tribute collected by the Assyrians while on military campaign. Like many other panels from the same storage room, it was part of a chair or couch back or the headboard of a bed. Twenty pieces of furniture were discovered stacked in orderly rows in this room, where they had been stored before the destruction of the Assyrian palaces in 612 B.C. Shown here is a finely carved winged female figure, dressed in a long garment belted at the waist, made of a material with an overall design of delicate wavy lines. The panel is broken on the right side, so much of the figures left side is missing, although one bare foot remains with heavy anklets visible below the hem of the dress. She wears her hair in long locks, with smaller curls above the forehead, and grasps a long stalk of veget

Date: dated 528.Steles of this type were common in the early sixth century. The dedicatory inscription on the base dates the work to the sixth month of the year 528 and indicates that it was commissioned by a group of seventy individuals on behalf of the emperor, the country, and various ancestors. As was customary, symbolic portraits of these patrons, arranged hierarchically, can be seen on the front, sides, and back of the stele. The two most important individuals are depicted inside small pavilions at top, and other major figures are shown just above the inscription, accompanied by attendants. Date: ca. 9th-8th century B.C..This carved ivory plaque was found in a storage room in Fort Shalmaneser, a royal building at Nimrud that was used to store booty and tribute collected by the Assyrians while on military campaign. It depicts a pair of bulls flanking a small tree, each nibbling at a leaf, framed above and below by a plain flat border. The five branches of the tree are arranged symmetrically and the leaves or fronds are decorated with horizontal ridges. Each bull's ribs are defined by vertical parallel lines, and similar lines frame the eye and the muscular ridges on the back of the neck. Neither is depicted with horns. Because of damage to the plaque in antiquity, only the head and shoulders of the left bull are preserved, but the right bull is complete.
