Date: early 2nd century.Distinguished by her larger size, bird-shaped cap, and flowing gown, the figure seated at the far left represents Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West. Thought to rule the land of the immortals (located somewhere to the west of China), Xiwangmu played a major role in Han funerary beliefs. The structured placement of Xiwangmu and her attendants in the pavilion is typical of later Han representations of heavenly courts, which under the influence of Confucianism, began to parallel the organization of earthly ones. Nimrud was an ancient Assyrian city located south of Nineveh on the Tigris River. In ancient times, it was known as Kalhu. It is in modern-day Iraq, southeast of Mosul. Carved onto this stone panel from the North-West palace of Ashurnasirpal II (883-859 B.C.) are bas-reliefs, such as this of foreigners bringing tribute. The figure on the left wears a turban, suggesting he is from northwestern Syria. His clenched fists are a sign of sumission. The figure on the right is thought to be a Phoenician and leads a monkey on a leash and a has another monkey on his head. The writing across the figures is in cuneiform script.

Relief with palace attendant ca. 1353-1336 BC New Kingdom, Amarna Period Narrow wooden palm columns provide the clue that a room of a palace or house structure is depicted on this block, since the stone temples employed in the main thick stone papyrus bundle columns. Many scenes of palaces are depicted in relief from royal buildings and in officials tombs, as the 'palace' served as a point of departure or station on the king's regularly depicted journey to the temple. In addition, there are official houses for central bureaucrats that are sometimes seen in association with the temples.An attendant stands over what seems to be a large flaming brazier on an openwork stand, and appears to drop addiitional coals on the brazier from a small dish. The flames shoot up quite high. Scenes like this evoking the busy activity of attendants, or ephemeral phenomena like dancing fire, create a hubub of activity and life surrounding the royal circle in its intense focus on the Aten.The relief is sand

Date: ca. 704-681 B.C..This relief fragment dates to the time of Sennacherib (r. 704-681 B.C.), and comes from the great Southwest Palace, called by Sennacherib the "Palace Without Rival," at Nineveh. It originally formed part of a procession scene, and depicts in low relief the upper part of a male figure whose beard, clothing, and jewelry indicate particularly high status. His diadem, with incised decoration representing embroidered rosettes and a thin length of fabric running from its back, is an attribute often associated in this period with the Assyrian crown-prince. Visible jewelry includes a large earring, crescent-shaped with multiple projecting pendants or studs, thick armlets, and a bracelet whose faces originally would have depicted rosettes; related forms have been found among the gold jewelry discovered in the tombs of royal women at Nimrud. Tomb of Ramesses III, Pharaoh of the Twentieth Dynasty in Ancient Egypt. reigned from 1186 to 1155 BC and is considered to be the last monarch of the New Kingdom to wield any substantial authority over Egypt. Cylinder seal and modern impression: four registers: hands, human and goat heads ca. 1720-1650 B.C. Although engraved stones had been used as early as the seventh millennium B.C. to stamp impressions in clay, the invention in the fourth millennium B.C. of carved cylinders that could be rolled over clay allowed the development of more complex seal designs. These cylinder seals, first used in Mesopotamia, served as a mark of ownership or identification. Seals were either impressed on lumps of clay that were used to close jars, doors, and baskets, or they were rolled onto clay tablets that recorded information about commercial or legal transactions. The seals were often made of precious stones. Protective properties may have been ascribed to both the material itself and the carved designs. Seals are important to the study of ancient Near Eastern art because many examples survive from every period and can, therefore, help to define chronological phases.
