Exterior views are of the apse, an original bell tower and a medieval relief sculpture. Views of the vast baroque interior with its barrel-vaulted ceiling and numerous candelabra focus on the Cappella di S. Catervo--its frescoes and sarcophagus of S. Catervo and S. Settimia (14th century). Interior views also include a sculpture of the Pieta (14th century), wood intarsia choirstalls, a marble holy water stoup and a baptismal font. Italy, Pompeii a sacrificial relief on the altar in the Temple of Vespasian

Pergamum Altar in the Pergamum Museum in Berlin. It is a monumental construction built during the reign of King Eumenes 11 in the first half of the 2nd century BC on one of the terraces of the acropolis of the ancient city of Pergamum in Asia Minor. It is 35.64 meters wide and 33.4 meters deep. The front stairway is almost 20 meters wide. The base is decorated with a frieze in high relief showing the battle between the Giants and Olympian gods known as the Gigantomachy. In 1878 the German engineer Carl Human began official excavations on the acropolis of Pergamum. The excavation was undertaken in order to rescue the altar friezes and expose the foundation of the edifice. Later, other ancient structures on the acropolis were brought to light.

Marble relief of Hermes, three nymphs, and Acheloös ca. 320-300 B.C. Greek, Attic The relief represents Hermes escorting three nymphs and, at the back, the forepart of the river god Acheloös who is represented in the form of a bull. A mound stands for a rustic altar. The retrospective style of the relief imitates works of the Archaic period (ca. 600-480 B.C.). Numerous votive reliefs of this type, dedicated to Hermes, Pan, and the nymphs, have been found in Greece. In most of these scenes, a grotto marks the locality; this relief is unusual for its architectural frame.. Side Panel of a Sarcophagus 200 CE-250 CE Antioch. This panel was once the side wall of a massive stone coffin. It is decorated in relief with a scene taken from the life of the Greek mythical hero Meleager, who led the hunt for a wild boar that was terrorizing the people of Calydon. Here the valiant hunter stands in the center, his right foot resting on a rock. He is surrounded by his companions, including Herakles at the far left, who is armed with his distinctive knobby club, and his beloved, Atalanta (now headless), seated on the right. Meleagerís head resembles portraits of Alexander the Great (356ñ323 B.C.), the Macedonian king and general who conquered Asia as far east as the Indus River, perhaps because the Romans equated success in the hunt with victory on the battlefield. It is possible that the owner of this sarcophagus wished to equate his bravery and achievements with those of both Meleager and Alexander.. Marble . Ancient Roman

Portion of a Pilaster with an Acrobat ca. 1150-70 French Acrobats appear often in medieval art, offering amusing reminders of the world beyond church or monastery walls. Appearing to defy the rules of nature, this contorted figure distracts attention from the capitals function as an architectural support. Saint-Martin at Savigny was a thriving abbey in the Middle Ages, with numerous dependencies. It was damaged during the Reformation, and its community diminished in size and was ultimately disbanded in 1779.
