Coffeepot 195239Cruet 1518 German This pair of silver vessels closely resembles the handled silver flagons perched on the shelf in the upper right corner of the nearby painting. Such objects were created for use on the table, where they reflected the high status of their owners. This pair was used in church services. Their diminutive scale reflects the small quantity of wine used in the Mass prior to the Reformation. For the liturgy, such objects were always made in pairs (for wine and water). Since these two liquids were combined in the chalice, cruets were often distinguished by the letters V (vinum) and A (aqua) engraved on the lid.. Cruet 467483Cup. The right -wing base has a flat top side, over which a pearl edge surrounds the foot. This is gradually built up and consists of a low smooth section, a higher central area on which a ribbons -bound wreath of laurel leaves and berries runs and a vault, a rejuvenating part with a decoration of two layers of rays laid on each other laurel leaves on a punched ground. Foot and trunk are separated by a nodus, sealed by profile edges, flat, flat, with acanthus leaves. The baluster -shaped tribe is decorated around the lower part with three acanthus fillets, which three surrounded by leaves surrounded oval medallions with antique portraits used to the right profile: the first gesture and acclaimed, the second beardless and also acclaimed and the third thrown. Among the trades taught was silversmithing, taught by a worker who had been favorabley passed on by the wardens of the guild. In recompense for his introduction the teacher-worker could be received as a master silversmith at the end of eight years. Denys Frankson registered his first mark in 1765 in this way.
