Plate two, from A Harlot's Progress Made 1732 England. Hogarth engraved these six copper plates (1964.254ñ59) with a burin, a sharp metal tool used to incise swelling lines directly into a flattened copper surface. He worked in reverse of the final printed images, which were produced by inking the plates and running them through a roller press with dampened sheets of paper on top. The small cross at the bottom of each plate was added when Hogarth issued the second state, released over a decade after the first, much copied edition. The prints on view nearby are early second state impressions, made before the addition of other changes and noticeable wear.. Copperplate . William Hogarth

Bamboo.These four hanging scrolls are examples of Chinese bamboo painting. Central to this genre is mastery of the brush. The bamboostem segments as well as the individual leaves are all rendered with just a single brushstroke. The artist worked fairly wet and, in addition to grey tints, made ample use of an undiluted deep black ink to create an atmosphere of lush and moist vegetation.

PYRAMUS en Thisbe Anonymous, 1580 - 1596 print Two fragmentary prints with a landscape with fountain. Thisbe discovers her dying beloved Pyramus, on which she commits suicide with his sword. Pyramus stabbed himself because he thought this was killed by a lion. De Leeuw runs in the background. A Latin text in the lower margin. The fragment with the dying pyramus is missing.
