. In a garden landscaped with many water features, nine figures have been collected around a set table. A number of them can be recognized by their attributes: Hera (Pauw), Ganymedes (donor of the gods: wine glass), Artemis (crescent), Hermes (staff with wings), Apollo (Lier and sun rays) and Zeus (scepter and eagle on lightning bolts). The fairly centrally placed pair would be able to imagine the armor of the man and the partially clarified upper body of the woman, Aphrodite and Ares (Mars and Venus), who maintained an illegitimate relationship. This identification is supported by one of the most striking parts in this representation: an amor, which keeps a mask for his face with his right hand. In the 'Amorvm Emblemata ...' from Otto Vaenius from 1608, 'Gheveynstheyt Love Philosophyt' is the caption at an amor, which partially covered his face with a mask. The corresponding verse is explained that a relationship can be kept secret in the interest of the (unfair) Love. (Antwerp 1608,

Date: ca. 1620-25.In the first quarter of the seventeenth century a small group of enamelers in Limoges produced polychrome painted enamels for watchcases. Most of the surviving enamels, including the one displayed here, were adapted from the woodcut illustrations by Bernard Salomon (1505/1510-ca. 1561) for the editions of Ovid's Metamorphoses published in Lyon by Jean de Tournes beginning in 1555. Earthly Paradise 1888 France. This exceptional object attests to the spirit of collaboration and competition between Paul Gauguin and the younger artist Emile Bernard in the late 1880s. It also speaks to their experimentations with radical new styles and techniques and their desire to break down the hierarchy between painting and applied or decorative art. On three of the five panels, Bernard (left vertical) and Gauguin (center panel and probably top panel) carved men, women, animals, and apple trees inspired by village life at Pont Aven, motifs that they also used in their paintings. On the right panel, however, Gauguin carved figures from his trip the previous year to the tropical island of Martinique, which presaged his future voyages to Tahiti..
