They incorporate three different patterns of stylized leaves and tendrils, one with silver-stained blossoms, and three different strapwork designs in four combinations. All are known to have originated in this glazing program. The botanical theme is continued in the border pattern and in three of the central bosses or fermaillets. Eight-Pointed Star-Shaped Tile 13th century This eight-pointed star tile was once part of a panel of star- and cross-shaped tiles adorning the walls of an Ilkhanid religious building. The abstract vegetal patterning of its central section was produced in a time-consuming and elaborate process in which copper luster was applied to the stonepaste tile after its first firing. Three Sufi sayings written in luster and following the line of the border address the role of fasting in religious observance.
