Illustrated by Ephraim Moses Lilien (1874-1925), art nouveau illustrator and printmaker, noted for his art on Jewish themes. He is sometimes called the "first Zionist artist. Münchhausen's relationship to Judaism remained ambivalent: Munchhausen did not consider the "Jewish race" inferior, but merely wanted to prevent a "mixture" with the non-Jewish Germans.
