Off To Smash Record In Comet II -- The Comet II, just before taking off on its 3,064 miles race. It has Rolls Royce Aven engines.In a superb gesture of faith in British jet genius, Mr. John Cunning ham (the famous "cat's-eyes" Cunningham) roared into the sky soon after dawn to-day at the controls of G-AMXA, first Comet II jet airliner off the production line. The Comet is heading for hot-weather performance tests in Africa, and on the way Cunningham hopes to smash the existing London to Khartoum speed and time record. Shortly before leaving, pilot Cunningham said, "I hope to halve the existing record. It is just over 14 hours at the moment. January 22, 1954.

12,000 Miles To Go -- The Duke of Gloucester holds the flag ready for the exact moment to send the Bea Viscount on its way. Planes competing in the 12,000 miles, London - New Zealand air race took off from London airport today. H.R.H. the duke of Gloucester was the official starter for the race. Before sending the planes off on their long flight, the duke spoke to the crews and inspected the planes. First plane to take off was the K.L.M. Liftmaster, competing in the transport section. 82 Passengers Will Fly in Tourist Clippers Eighty-two passengers and crew of six about to board the tourist class Pan-American Clipper Liberty Bell for a trial flight. The Liberty Bell is the first of 18 aircraft to be operated on the new service. Eyes On The Comet -- Technicians cluster round the De Havilland Coemt, Britain's fastest airliner, at the 'dress rehearsal' of the air display which is being staged here by the Society of British Aircraft Constructors. Behind the Comet is the Blackburn and General Aircraft Universal Freighter, Britain's largest transport plane.Fifty-eight planes of different types are taking part in the display, which on Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public. First of The Superforts Touch Down. B29's For Britain.One of the B29 Superforts comes in to land at the air base here. The planes and crews were welcomed by British Secretary of State crews were welcomed by British Secretary of State for Air. Mr. Arthur Henderson.The first four 3,000-mile-range B29 Superforts to be given to Britain under the United States military aid programme, landed here after flying from Andrews Field, Maryland. Bearing Royal Air Force markings, they were flown by American airmen, and form the vanguard of a fleet of 70 being delivered to Britain. March 22, 1950.

The VP-3A Orion aircraft used by ADM James A. Lyons Jr., commander in chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, taxis on the flight line upon arrival at Qingdao Airport.
