Sampler worked in cross-stitch in colored silk on fine cream-colored cotton with linen effect, marked CM 1784 ACS AP, sampler embroidery needlework images silk cotton, textile embroidery cross stitch star stitch Pretty square piece of fine cream colored cotton with an indented linen effect in the thread and around narrow hem edge of 0.4 cm . The layout of the embroidery on the piece is evenly symmetrical. In the late nineteenth century, decorative furnishings, such as throws and pillows, were assembled from a medley of bits and pieces, much like scrapbooks. Crazy-quilt style home accessories, made with varied in irregular shapes, pieced, and accented with embroidery, appliquÈ, and pianted scenes were widely popular (see also Crazy Quilt with Animals and John L.
