French Navy Bathscafe Dives 13,288 Feet In Atlantic --The French Navy Bathyscafe FNRS3, shown leaving Dakar on the west coast of Africa to make a test dive Jan. 27, today plunged 13,288 feet below the surface of the Atlantic at that port. The French Naval officers rode the diving bell down, descending farther than man has gone before. The dive passed the depth record set last Sept. 30 by Prof. Auguste Piccard and his son, Jacques, at 10,339 feet. Aboard the craft above is an engineer, not further identified. February 15, 1954. Photograph of F/V Amparo Near Bimini. This image is one of a set of photographs taken of the fishing vessels involved in a shooting incident 12 March near Bimini. These photos were not released as no Coast Guard action was involved and the vessels were Bahamian and Cuban. The photos were shot with a K-20 aerial camera by an air crewman, and not by one of the rated photographers assigned.

Breaking A Road Block Via Sea -- Jewish population of Nahariya, on the Palestine-Mediterranean Coast, faced slow starvation when it was cut off from supplies by an Arab road Block at Acre after the loss of the port of Haifa. Supplied were normally hauled from Haifa via truck in an hour, for survival, the town's younger people took to boats. The Hazardous Voyage took a day, but supplies got through as the small boat (above) is beached with its cargo while other launches lie off shore. "Robot" Lands Supersonic Planed: The mirror landing aid with lights.The Admiralty released the news last night that Britain has scored yet another naval aviation success. It is a visual deck-landing aid which enables aircraft to approach and land on the flight decks of aircraft carriers at high speeds with-out the need for a landing-signals officer.The landing aid is a large curved mirror on a gyre-operated mounting.Experiments carried out some time ago indicated that the high rate of approach of future aircraft would not allow sufficient time for the human reactions between the pilot and the "batsman" who signals him on. World's Fastest Passenger Boat -- The Hydrofoil craft at speed during a demonstration Run. Claimed By Its Inventor, Hans Von Schertel of Germany, to be the fastest passenger-carrying boat in the World, A 45-foot-long boat with wings was put through its paces on Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, September 9. It covered 50 miles up and down the Lake at 50 Miles an hour with 32 Passengers aboard. The Hydraulically-Operated "Wings" lifted the main part of the craft out of the water shortly after it started, decreasing the water-drag by some 50%. September 11, 1952.
