During the second third of the 19th century many Spaniards went as farmers to make their fortune in northern Algeria. On June 11, 1881, the men of the Marabout Mohamed el-Arbi, known as Bu-Amena, attacked farmers who were gathering esparto in the Oranian agricultural fields of Khalfalia and Frendah, near Saida (Algeria). It caused panic among European emigrants. Many of them returned to their countries of origin. Port of Cartagena (Spain). Arrival of the transatlantic steamer "Saint Augustin", transporting reinforcements of French troops from Marseille to Algeria. The contingent was made up by 905 French infantrymen . THE CIVIL WAR IN CHILI, THE BATTLE OF VINA DEL MAR; This general engagement took place on August 23rd, 1891, between devisions of Balmaceda's and the Congressional troops, with the Esmeralda and the Almirante Cochrane aiding the latter by firing at Fort Callao, and endeavouring to silence the field batteries at the back. The Congressional troops failed to capture Vina del Mar, but eventually cut the railway line a few miles out, and crossed over to the back of Valparaiso.

Following the breakdown of negotiations to seek recompense for the Namamugi Incident in September 1862, and having been surprised by cannon fire from the shore, ships of the British Royal Navy bombard the Japanese town of Kagoshima. The ships involved were HMS Euryalus; HMS Pearl; HMS Coquette; HMS Argus; HMS Perseus; HMS Racehorse and the gunboat HMS Havoc. The Explosion on board the Great Eastern Steam Ship, off Hastings, on the 9th September, 1859. The 'Great Eastern' left the Thames on 7 September 1859. Two days later, when she was passing the south coast, a terrific explosion occurred, caused by an absence of safety valves for the paddle engine boilers. Six firemen were killed and the grand saloon and several cabins were wrecked. However, it is a testament to the solidity of the ship's construction that it survived the blast.
