Coast Guard Helicopter Demonstrates Air-Sea Rescue with the New U-Type Harness. From a boat moving at 20 knot speed, Coast Guardsman Carl A. Yanuzzi, Aviation Machinist's Mate First class grasps a new u-type rescue harness an "hitches a ride" under a Coast Guard Sikorsky helicopter, flown by Commander F. A. Erickson from the Coast Guard Air Station, Brooklyn, N.Y. The Sea-sky transfer was part of a recent demonstration of the use of the u-type harness in air-sea rescues.

Eastwind - Dew Line 1956 Radar Station. The U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Eastwind lies off shore at a Dew Line (Distant Early Warning) radar station in the East Arctic while leaving delivered cargo and personnel for completion of the station. This photograph was taken during the 1956 annual summer United States (with cooperation of the governments of Greenland and Canada) Resupply Mission to stations and bases established in Greenland, Eastern Canada, Baffin Island and at the top of Alaska. On this, the sixth annual mission, the Eastwind served as flagship and escort through fields of ice for supply vessels of the Navy's Military Sea Transportation Service carrying provisions for completion of new northeaster Dew Line radar stations. The Eastwind returned to her homeport at Castle Island, Boston, on October 15 after completing this assignment of four months' duration.
