Men engaged in one of the most hazardous tasks, that of deep-sea diving, are given a very rigid test and training before they undertake their jobs. This photo taken in London shows a demonstration of the use of a compression chamber. If a diver comes up too quickly from a great depth he is afflicted with Caisson disease which may well prove fatal-as it is a type of paralysis-unless instantly treated. He is put into this chamber under an air pressure equal to that at the lowest depth to which he has been and the pressure is then very gradually decreased. In most cases this treatment restores the diver to normal health.

Coast Guardsman is Empire State Crash Hero (No. 1 in a series of 3). Coast Guardsman Don Molony of Detroit, credited with saving a least a dozen lives after an army bomber crashed into the Empire State Building, administers first aid to a New York City Fireman overcome by smoke in fighting the fire on the 79th floor. The 17-year-old Hospital Apprentice, Second Class, strolling in the vicinity of the Manhattan skyscraper, heard the roar of the bomber, witnessed the crash, the blinding explosion, and saw the burst of white flame mushrooming from the building. Dashing into a nearby drugstore, he crammed a suitcase with morphine, hypos, needles, first aid kits, ointments and rushed into the building. After treating the woman operator of an elevator which had plummeted 80 floors to the basement, Molony raced up 79 flights of stairs, where he succored more of the injured and dying.

Salvaging Vienna's Children. Vienna doctors, encouraged by aid from the Red Cross, are fighting a gallant battle against the inroads of tuberculosis. In the Kinder Klinik, which is conducted by Dr. Clement von Pirquet, tuberculosis expert and founder of the Children's Hospital at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, the boys and girls are given sun baths to hasten their recovery from tuberculosis complaints. Here are half an acre of children absorbing the life giving qualities of sunlight. The first aid these sick Viennese children received came from the boys and girls of the Junior Red Cross,
