This ship-to-shore cruise aboard the liberty boat was much more comfortable than his last ship-to-shore trip aboard a landing boat at Saipan and Tinian.

After his operation, he remained unconscious for days, but hardly in knowledge or he showed his willingness to be taken to a place close to the hospital where a landmine was found, which yielded great danger to the building. The land mine was laid on the baar at Cor de Jager, and then told the injured how the mine had to be dismantled. His courageous action occurred seriously disaster for the hospital. Other land mines were also dismantled at its instructions. First the light of openness on this brave act now fell as he has never spoken about this. Photograph of Coast Guardsman Henry Richmond, Jr. Holding "Camouflage", the Cat Mascot of His Coast Guard-manned Landing Ship. This Coast Guard Cat Needs Nine Lives - He Chases Jap Tracer Bullets. "Camouflage," the tiger cat mascot of a Coast Guard-manned LST, is a playful fellow. His idea of a rousing good time is to chase Jap tracer bullets, when they burn across the deck of his ship. A tracer would come ping and "Camouflage" would dart from one rail to the other in hot, if futile, pursuit. All this occurred, the cat's Coast Guard shipmates swear, when Jap planes strafed the LST at Bougainville. The cat's antics in the heat of those grim moments relieved the tension of the crew. Here, "Camouflage," a thorough seagoing, wargoing cat, is shown with Coast Guardsman Henry Richmond, Jr., an invasion veteran, of Sheboygan, Wis.
