Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 A doctor and nurse at London's Guy's Hospital attend to a patient in the surgery of the hospital, whilst an almoner (on the left of the photograph) takes personal details from the casualty and updates his MPC 47 form, which contains all the information about the patient from their entry to the hospital and will be used to arrange any further care or treatment.

Invasion Village- Everyday Life in Orford, Suffolk, England, 1941 One of the homes in the village has become the local First Aid Post. Here, during a practice session in front of the fire in the front room of the house, we see Nurse Baker taking the pulse of the 'victim', whilst Mrs Thompson and Miss Arkle (daughter of County Councillor Arkle) prepare the treatment.

Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 A nurse gives a female patient some clothes which have been donated by the British War Relief Society of America. The clothes have a label on them with the words 'America to Britain'. This lady lost everything she owned in an air raid, so these clothes will be very useful.

Bevin Boy- Mining Training at Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, February 1945 In the Welfare Department at Ollerton Colliery, Miner G Watkins is receiving Faradism treatment on his injured knee. In the background, two Bevin boys wearing protective goggles receive sunlight treatment. A nurse can be seen adjusting the strength of the light. Faradism is a type of treatment which uses electricity, probably to stimulate the muscles.

08/31/1936. Healing a Wounded Person in the Outposts.

Dogs give serum to fight tick poison Boy the Beagle and Donna the Alsation are helping to save many other dogs from death by tick poison.Because they are immune to the poison, a serum from their blood will be used to treat dogs suffering from tick bite. Since they were pups, Boy and Donna have lived in tick-infested country at Cronulla. When they were bitten by ticks, they lost appetite and suffered a paralysis which made them stagger. Their bark became shrill. Unlike most dogs they survived, gradually built up immunity to tick-bite. Now they can carry as many as 20 ticks without ill-effects. Lent to surgeon - Their poultry-farmer owner lent them during the week to North Sydney veterinary surgeon Rowland Pursell. From the blood of Boy and Donna, Pursell gets an anti-tick serum. One bleeding provides enough to treat 10 dogs. November 6, 1947.

Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 Stretcher cases are rushed through to the surgery at Guy's Hospital, where doctors, nurses and almoners attend to patients. Two patients are on trollies, but the one in the foreground is still lying on the steel stretcher on which they were brought to the hospital. The stretcher has been balanced on two wooden A frames to allow hospital staff to attend to the patient. The almoners take personal details from the patients to allow them to make arrangements for after-care.

Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 The student doctor acting as 'tally man' notes the casualty number on the MPC 47 form, which will accompany the casualty throughout their treatment. The tally man places the document on the stretcher with the casualty before the stretcher-bearers carry the patient into the hospital.

Affection for Tojo -- A Japanese identified as Tojo's secretary throws his arms about the neck of the ex-premier, who was severely wounded after an attempted suicide. Tojo was found in a chair in his home, blood spurting from a gaping wound after he shot himself in the abdomen, by American officers coming to arrest him. September 16, 1945. (Photo by ACME).
