. The personalized Dutch society of Sciences has been seated on a throne on which the city weapons of Haarlem and Amsterdam are affixed. At the throne, Ceres, goddess of agriculture, is with a corn sheaf and a sickle. On the right the seated Mercury with the caduceus in his hand. Two putti bend over a building plan in the foreground. In the background ships on the water. Allegory at the first meeting of the 'Oeconomic Tak' established in 1777 of the Dutch Society of Sciences in Haarlem. This branch of society aimed through annual prizes trade and holding out of their decay.

Date: 1802.This two-volume edition of La Fontaine's Fables is one of several illustrated editions of the poet's work that Didot published. It is fourth in Didot's five-part "Louvre editions," following the The Works of Racine (1801-5) and preceding The Works of Boileau (1816). The twelve headpiece illustrations were designed by Charles Percier, who also designed the illustrations for the second installment of the "Louvre editions," namely the The Works of Horace. Title Page, The Caricature Magazine by G. M. Woodward, Vol. 4 1809 Thomas Rowlandson Tegg's "Caricature Magazine" first appeared in 1807 and each issue was given a different title page. This example introduced volume 4 in 1809; it would be put to use again in 1821 with a revised date and different hand coloring (see 59.533.1716). Two figures below may represent the artist Woodward and Tegg, with the man at left sketching a caricature and sitting below a framed image of a Masquerade and the word Humour; that at right holding a whip and sitting beneath a picture of a Country Dance and the word Satire. Laurels frame the title and publication details, with the latter topped with a swag lettered "Vive la Bagatelle," and a mask, here light-skinned, held by cupids.
