110312-N-0000X-003SENDAI, Japan (March 12, 2011) An SH-60B helicopter assigned to the Chargers of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron (HS) 14 from Naval Air Facility Atsugi flies over the city of Sendai to deliver more than 1,500 pounds of food to survivors of an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami. The citizens of Ebina City, Japan, donated the food, and HS-14 is supporting earthquake and tsunami relief operations in Japan as directed.

SENDAI, Japan -- Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, transported 76 barrels of kerosene to distribution points in northern Japan March 19 to be dispersed by the Japan Self-Defense Force to Japanese citizens affected by the earthquake and tsunami. While transporting fuel, the air crew conducts visual reconnaissance missions along the coastline of northern Japan, searching for S.O.S. signals from gatherings of Japanese citizens. The aircraft crew records the coordinates of the signal, then return during a follow-on mission to bring supplies to the displaced citizens.
