Date: 1860-90.Although the specific origins of this scarf are unidentified, the coloration and patterning shows the merging of influences between Western Europe and Islam. The defining features include brilliant colors in both brocaded flowers and weft and Western lace motifs combined with a complex pattern that incorporates the tassel motif common in traditional folk patterns--and here evocative of the Turkish tulip form. The scarf was given to the collection by Millicent Rogers, who not only amassed a notable collection of haute couture garments, she also collected folkloric clothing and accessories for her own use. A rectangular frame made with scented wires, which thus form a relief contour line, is filled with dust stitches ('point de venise'): feston stitches over horizontal toddles. In the middle a decoration has been made with rectangular recesses. These are two adjacent configurations of each four-saved rectangles. With the steel, a fragment of 19th-century or early 20th-century Venetian needle side belongs in which this technique has been applied, including in a variant, creating a cut-away pattern with cubes.Poll photo collection. The balloon model has a long smooth cuff with intermediate sinks and a strip of Rijssel side. The sleeve is embroidered with flowers and the cuff with stars and leaves. The three sides intermediate sinks each consist of a row of round holes between stripes. The tulle in the cuff is of a finer quality than that of the sleeve and is decorated with stars and a sewn ribbon in the form of coffee beans. The collar of the cuff is sculpted with a row of bent flower branches. The cuff has three buttonholes, but the knots are missing. West-Europa cambric.
