Nespoli, Randy Bresnik of NASA and Sergey Ryazanskiy of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) will launch July 28 aboard the Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft for a five-month mission on the International Space Station.

NM18-302-038 (28 June 1995) --- Astronaut Norman E. Thagard, Mir-18 cosmonaut researcher, took this picture aboard Mir on the eve of the targeted arrival day of Atlantis. Thagard told a July 18 press conference audience in Houston that he worked to clean the area prior to the Mir-19 crew and the STS-71 crew arrival and that his showing of this slide represented the first time the crew would have seen the area "in this condition."

A test unit, or prototype, of NASA's Advanced Plant Habitat (APH) was delivered to the Space Station Processing Facility at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The APH is the largest plant chamber built for the agency. The unit is being prepared for engineering development tests to see how the science will integrate with the various systems of the plant habitat. It will have 180 sensors and four times the light output of Veggie. The APH will be delivered to the International Space Station in March 2017.

Cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, commander; along with NASA astronaut Michael Barratt and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata, both flight engineers, undocked the Soyuz spacecraft at 4:26 p.m. (CDT) and docked to the Pirs Docking Compartment at 4:54 p.m. on July 2, 2009.

During the six-hour, eight-minute spacewalk, Ryazanskiy and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kotov (out of frame), commander, completed the installation of a pair of high fidelity cameras that experienced connectivity issues during the Dec. 27 spacewalk, and retrieved scientific gear outside the station's Russian segment. The astronauts of the second Return to Flight mission, STS-121, were at the SPACEHAB facility in Cape Canaveral to participate in the Crew Equipment Interface Test (CEIT). This test allows the astronauts to become familiar with equipment they will be using on their upcoming mission. STS-121 is scheduled to launch in July aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis.
