NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, its backshell and heatshield visible within this enhanced-color image of the Phoenix landing site taken on Jan. 6, 2010 by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Reportage at the Neuroimaging research centre in Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, France. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) platform. MEG detects variations in the brain's magnetic field during various types of cerebral activity. It studies normal and abnormal brain function. Recording the magnetic field produced by neuronal currents requires ultra sensitive sensors called SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device). The 306 sensors spread over 102 areas allow both near and far magnetic fields to be measured, and the brain's deep structures to be 'seen'. Results of a MEG carried out on a healthy patient receiving visual stimulation. The curves at bottom left show magnetic fields both before and during visual stimulation. The right-hand image combines an MRI scan with the MEG. The active areas of the brain during stimulation can be seen (red line). The top left-hand image shows the brain's magnetic flux.

ISS034-E-005935 (8 Dec. 2012) --- A nighttime view of Liege, Belgium is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 34 crew member on the International Space Station. To paraphrase the old expression, all roads lead to Liege” - or at least one could get that impression from this nighttime photograph. The brightly lit core of the Liege urban area appears to lie at the center of a network of roadways—traceable by continuous orange lighting—extending outwards into the rural, and relatively dark, Belgium countryside. For a sense of scale the distance from left to right is approximately 70 kilometers. The region at upper left to the southeast of Verviers includes agricultural fields and forest; hence it appears almost uniformly dark at night. The image was taken using the European Space Agency’s Nodding mechanism, also known as the NightPod. NightPod is an electro-mechanical mount system designed to compensate digital cameras for the motion of the space station relative to Earth.

Neurofeedback makes it possible to record the electrical activity of the brain, the goal would be for the individual to be able to self-regulate his neuronal activity.

Report in a neurofeeback office in France. Neurofeedback is a technique that allows the electrical activity of the brain to be analyzed in real time in an attempt to intuitively improve its functioning. In practice, sensors are applied to the skull and to the ears. The electrical signals are detected using an electroencephalograph which provides the information to a dedicated application. The practitioner is in control of the program while a multimedia activity is delivered to the patient, here in the form of music. During listening, the system informs the brain of the dynamics of the signals it emits, it can then learn to correct them spontaneously thanks to very sophisticated software and can thus succeed in emitting stable and balanced signals. On the screen, the practitioner can visualize the sound waves transmitted to his patient.
