This Florentine portrait is an outstanding example of Italian Mannerist painting, a Late Renaissance style defined by complex compositions, vivid colors, and unnaturally elongated figures. Here, Bartolomeo Traballesi emphasizes his sitters grace and refinement by artificially sloping her shoulders and lengthening her neck and fingers. Also typical of Mannerist portraiture are the models trappings of status and erudition: a Turkish carpet of a type then popular at the Medici court and a book of poetry. From urban centers to frontier areas, paintings by European and New World artists depicting religious and secular subjects decorated the homes of Creole, peninsular Spanish, mestizo (people of mixed race), and indigenous men and women. The five Andean paintings on this wall were produced for a growing art market by anonymous artists in the workshops of Cuzco. Views of the interior include: a stoup, 17th century wood pulpit, altar paintings, marble altar and baroque altarpiece with details of sculptures and paintings. Most views are of the 14th century frescoes. On the entrance wall is a curious scene of the Last Judgment: Christ in a mandorla sits enthroned among various saints, music-making angels, Virgins and Patriarchs; three saints kneel below him, one in bishops' robes and two in Capuchin habit; instruments of the Passion lay on a table. In the lower register, nude souls cross a bridge, are judged by St. Michael, and then climb up a palm tree to enter a house whereupon they are clothed and dance. Other frescoes include scenes of the life of St. Thomas (under which is much graffiti), and various saints such as St. Catherine
