To give some sense of the immense scale of cyclones arranged in a hexagonal pattern at Jupiter's south pole, an outline of the continental United States is superimposed over the central cyclone and an outline of Texas is superimposed over the newest cyclone. The hexagonal arrangement of the cyclones is large enough to dwarf the Earth. The JIRAM image was obtained during the 23rd science pass of the Juno spacecraft over Jupiter, on November 4, 2019. The JIRAM instrument measures heat radiated from the planet at an infrared wavelength of around 5 microns.

This digitally colorized scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image of an untreated water specimen extracted from a wild stream mainly used to control flooding during inclement weather, revealed the presence of unidentified organisms, which included bacteria, protozoa, and algae. In this particular view, a mass of gelatinous biofilm had enmeshed numbers of microorganisms, including amoebae and bacteria. CDC/ Janice Haney Carr 2009
