Navy Band Ceremonial Brass Ensemble plays during a ceremony commemorating the 125th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Maine, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., Feb. 15, 2023.On Feb. 15, 1898, the USS Maine exploded off the coast of Havana, Cuba, leading to the loss of 260 of her crew. Due to Spanish policy, burials had to be made within 24 hours, therefore the initial crew recovered in the aftermath of the disaster were buried at the Colon Cemetery in Havana. On March 30, 1898, Congress approved a bill authorizing for their remains to be disinterred and transferred to ANC. On Dec. 28, 1899, 165 sets of remains were interred in Section 24 with a full military honors service. The USS Maine was eventually raised, and the ships mast was transported by the Navy to ANC where it was placed next to Section 24 onto a granite base meant to represent the turret of the battleship. Stewart was assigned to the USS Oklahoma, which sustained fire from Japanese aircraft and multiple torpedo hits causing the ship to capsize and resulted in the deaths of more than 400 crew members on Dec. 7, 1941, at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor. Stewart was recently identified through DNA analysis by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) forensic laboratory and laid to rest with full military honors.

The 25th Infantry Division Band Brass Quintet Soldiers provide music on Jan. 5, 2023, during the Flying V ceremony at historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. The Flying V ceremony traditionally welcomes or honors senior Army officials when they assume duties or depart from USARPAC. The V refers to how the colors are posted during the ceremony, which is in a V-shape.

Sailors assigned to Navy Band Northwest perform as Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85) arrives to its new homeport of Naval Station Everett, Washington April 8, 2022. Prior to relocating, the ship underwent an extensive Depot Modernization Period in Portland, Oregon that spanned more than 18 months. The modernization included improvements to the hull, mechanical systems, electrical technology, wireless communications, and weapon upgrades. Norfolk (September 19, 2022) Musician Chief (Select) Patrick Cotter, from Hershey, Pennsylvania, plays the trombone as an accompaniment of a combined group of Chief Petty Officer selectees from Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story during guidon competition of the 21st Annual Chief Petty Officer Heritage Days event. The three-day event allows CPO selectees to receive history and heritage training at the museum and aboard the Battleship Wisconsin, and is hosted by the museum and area commands. The event is the largest and longest running of its kind in Virginia.
