The event is the largest and longest running of its kind in Virginia.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) hosts a ceremony for National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Sept. 16, 2022. The event is held every year on the third Friday of September, honoring prisoners of war and missing-in-action service members. JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (Dec. 9, 2022) Sailors assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet band perform during a holiday lighting ceremony at the Freedom Tower on JBPHH. The Freedom Tower stands as a landmark on JBPHH. During the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, the 166-foot tower was thought to be a religious structure and not bombed during the attack.

The Eagle Dragon Taiko drummer groupplays Taiko drums during the Misawa Air Fest at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 11, 2022. HONOLULU (July 6, 2022) The Royal Australian Navy Band perform a rock concert at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.
