The fire department was reaccredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International earlier in 2022. The fire department is one of more than 200 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Falfurrias, Texas, A state trooper marks the site after a van holding 26 undocumented immigrants from Central America overturned on Texas Highway 285. The driver had picked up the migrants just down the road after they had completed a several-day walk to get around a Border Patrol checkpoint. Overloaded and unstable, the van crashed as it drove away at high speed. Two seriously-injured men remained at the scene. The others ran off, pursued by Border Patrol officers.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has received FEMA Mission Assignments (MAs) for Regional Activation and Temporary Emergency Power in response to Hurricane Fiona. Under these MAs we have deployed a Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team, Soldiers from the 249th Engineer Battalion, team leaders and assistant team leaders, as well as subject matter experts in logistics, temporary power, infrastructure assessment and debris.

Communication Strategy and Operations Marines with 2d Marine Division and 2d Marine Logistics Group race to the finish line during a workout of the day on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, May 20, 2022. This workout is in remembrance of Lance Cpl. Jacob A. Hug and Cpl. Sara A. Medina deployed to Kathmandu, Nepal with Joint Task Force 505 shortly after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country on April 25, 2015. The task force was called upon by the Nepalese Government to provide humanitarian relief shortly after the earthquake. On May 12, another 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the country and JTF 505 continued to provide relief. That afternoon, while providing humanitarian aid, a UH-1Y Huey, with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469, crashed eight miles north of Charikot, Nepal. Two Nepalese soldiers and six U.S. Marines died in the crash.

Despite the rain, hundreds of riders participated in the annual Peacekeepers Ride, which supports causes for service members and law enforcement officers.  The annual Peacekeepers ride starts at the Illinois National Guard headquarters on Camp Lincoln in Springfield. This year the ride, held on July 17, honored Illinois Army National Guard Col. (ret.) James Smith and Sangamon County Sheriff Department Sgt. Jason Boesdorfer, both of whom died in May. Smith served in the Illinois Army National Guard for 31 years retiring as the ILARNG Chief of Staff in 2008. He then went on to serve as the Illinois Department of Military Affairs Chief of Staff from 2008 until his death on May 11, 2022.
