Assistant Director of Supply & Transport, 8 Division Lt Col Brown was commissioned in 1899 and served with the Army Service Corps in the Second Anglo-Boer War, during which conflict he was Mentioned in Despatches. He received a temporary appointment in India in 1909 and joined the Indian Army in 1911. The Supply & Transport Corps left Lucknow for the Western Front in August 1914. Lt Col Brown served there until December 1915 when he was posted to Mesopotamia. In 1916, he was promoted to major and then to lieutenant colonel on his appointment as assistant director in 1917. He was Mentioned in Despatches several times and awarded a Serbian decoration with Sword. Lt Col Brown survived the war. Oskar Emil von Hutier (1857 - 1934), German general during the First World War. He served in the German Army from 1875 to 1919, including war service. During the war, he commanded the army that took Riga in 1917 and was transferred to the Western Front in 1918 to participate in the Michael offensive that year. He is frequently but mistakenly credited with inventing the stormtrooper tactics his forces employed to great effect during the Michael offensive. After retiring from the Army in 1919, he presided over the German Officers' League until his death on 5 December 1934.

Fritz Theodor Carl von Below (1853 - 23 November 1918), Prussian general in the German Army during the First World War. He commanded troops during the Battle of the Somme, the Second Battle of the Aisne, and the Spring Offensive in 1918.

Francisco Aguilera y Aegea (1857 - 1931) Spanish soldier and politician. He fought in the campaigns in Morocco. Appointed on April 19, 1917 Minister of War he served until June of that year. he was later made a Senator for life and as a staunch liberal, he enjoyed great prestige in the military to the point that his name was shuffled to head a military board shortly before the coup of Miguel Primo de Rivera.

World War I - Louis Botha (27 September 1862 27 August 1919) Afrikaner and . A Boer war hero during the Second Boer War, he went on to become first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. In 1914 Botha offered immediate military assistance to the British. This sparked rebellion among a portion of the Afrikaner community. Botha chose to personally lead the Union forces assembled to quell the rebellion (led by Generals de Wet and Beyers)

Chiang Kai-shek was an influential member of the nationalist party Kuomintang (KMT) and Sun Yat-sen's close ally. He became the Commandant of Kuomintang's Whampoa Military Academy and took Sun's place in the party when the latter died in 1925. In 1928, Chiang led the Northern Expedition to unify the country, becoming China's overall leader. He served as chairman of the National Military Council of the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China (ROC) from 1928 to 1948. Chiang led China in the Second Sino-Japanese War, during which the Nationalist Government's power severely weakened, but his prominence grew. Chiang's Nationalists engaged in a long standing civil war with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After the Japanese surrender in 1945, Chiang attempted to eradicate the Communists. Ultimately, with support from the Soviet Union, the CCP defeated the Nationalists, forcing the Nationalist government to retreat to Taiwan, where martial law was continued while the government stil
