U.S. Strike Over - Queen Elizabeth May Sail Sunday -- The Good News... Tom Davis, Deck Steward of Southampton, breaks the good news to passengers on the games deck of Queen Elizabeth today (Thurs.). The Queen Mary, also Delayed, is seen in background.There were scenes of jubilation aboard the Cunard White Star liner Queen Elizabeth at Southampton today (Thursday) when it was announced that, owing to the end of the New York Dock Strike, the vessel may sail on Sunday. The liner has todate been delayed sailing for 8 days. The good news, coming on American Thanksgiving Day, cheered up the passengers, many of whom, on previously being told they just leave the liner, had staged a "sit-down" strike. Admiralty Built Tanker For Australian Government - Mrs Foley performing the ***** naming ceremony.The fast replenishment tanker TIDE AUSTRAL" has just been launched at the Musgrave Yard of Messrs Harland and Wolff Ltd at Belfast. The naming ceremony was performed by Mrs Foley, wife of Captain J.B. Foley, C.B.E.. A.D,C.. R.A.N. Royal Australian Naval Liaison Officer, London, who was also present. A bottle of Australian wine was used in laming the vessel. The main machinery for the vessel is by Harland and Wolff Ltd, of extreme length of 583 feet (550 feet between perpendiculars) the "Tide Austral has a beam of 71 feet and dead weight of 17,700mtons.
