A pre-First World War demonstration of a two man kite designed by Samuel Franklin Cody for use by the British Army's Royal Engineers Balloon Section. Demonstration of a two man kite designed by S F Cody for use by the British Army Royal Engineers Balloon Section. Such kites were intended for use when high wind speeds (above twenty miles an hour) prevented the use of observation balloons. The kite could ascend to heights of 2,500 feet in the right conditions.

Japanese War Criminals Pay Penalty -- The Bony of Captain Kamai Mitsuo dangles from the end of the rope just after the trap had been sprung at his execution in Singapore on March 14 for his crimes against British prisoners of war in the Kanburi Camp on the infamous Siam railway. Some of the prisoners died of beatings ordered by Mitsuo. At the foot of the gallows are the bodies of two other Japanese executed before Mitsuo. Paratroops in training at the R.A.F. parachute school, upper Heyford, Oxfordshire. This R.A.F. parachute training school, which trains all British airborne troops, has now completed 500,000 jumps. Since the school was formed in 1940 improvement regarded as a rather hazardous and frightening experience into something commonplace. During the peak years for the training of parachutists, 1943-45, the number of jumps at the school averaged about 110,000 a year. Up to the end of 1945 ***** there was one fatal accident in every 8,800 jumps. Since ***** nearly 80,000 jumps have been made without one death. September 11, 1951.
