The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121) arrives in Charleston, S.C. for its commissioning ceremony May 9, 2022. The ship is named in honor of the Marine Corps lieutenant general who was the first African-American Marine Corps aviator and Marine Corps general officer. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1988 after 38 years of service.

YOKOSUKA, Japan (June 9, 2022) The U.S. Coast Guard Legend-class cutter USCGC Munro (WMSL 755) sits pier side at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY). Munro visited CFAY during a scheduled port call while deployed in support of Operation North Pacific Guard, an annual high seas international law enforcement operation designed to detect and deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleets forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.

NEW YORK (Oct. 6, 2012) The Arleigh-Burke class destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) sits moored at dress ship to Pier 88 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for the ship's commissioning ceremony. Murphy is named after Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient who posthumously received the nation's highest military honor for bravery during combat in Afghanistan in 2005.

Paul Ignatius is the 67th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and the first warship named for former Secretary of the Navy Paul Ignatius, who served in the Lyndon Johnson administration from 1967 to 1969.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USS Anchorage has returned to Naval Base San Diego after completion of the Orion Underway Recovery Test 2 in the Pacific Ocean. Support equipment for the test has been offloaded from the ship. NASA, Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy conducted the test on the Orion boilerplate test vehicle to prepare for recovery of the Orion crew module on its return from a deep space mission. The underway recovery test allowed the team to demonstrate and evaluate the recovery processes, procedures, new hardware and personnel in open waters.The Ground Systems Development and Operations Program conducted the underway recovery test. Orion is the exploration spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to destinations not yet explored by humans, including an asteroid and Mars. It will have emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during space travel and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities. The open base event highlights the partnership between the U.S. Navy and the host nation of Japan. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific Region.
