CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- The Miami-Dade Police Department Honor Guard Unit play the bagpipes as they make their way to the Astronaut Memorial Mirror at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for the U.S. Honor Flag presentation ceremony. The flag is presented to NASA to be prepared to fly aboard space shuttle Atlantis on the Space Shuttle Program's final mission, STS-135. The U.S. Honor Flag has been flown nationwide, at Ground Zero and throughout the world to honor heroes who have lost their lives while serving their community and country, including police officers, firefighters, members of the Armed Forces and astronauts. More than 100 honor guard members traveled to the Space Coast to take part in the ceremony. After the flag returns to Earth, it will continue as a traveling memorial.

Los Angeles Air Force Base held a remembrance event for National POW/MIA Recognition Day that began on Sept. 15 and ended on Sept. 16 with a 54 mile torch run and wreath laying ceremony.  The torch lighting and run began at Terminal Island, California, and ended at the base. Various base and community organizations carried the torch while running relay legs. The Los Angeles Air Force Base honor guard presented the colors for the opening ceremony on Sept. 16, 2022. Col. The worlds largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the worlds oceans. During normal operations, the active-duty Sailors stationed aboard USS Constitution provide free tours and offer public visitation to more than 600,000 people a year as they support the ships mission of promoting the Navys history and maritime heritage and raising awareness of the importance of a sustained naval presence. USS Constitution was undefeated in battle and destroyed or captured 33 opponents. The ship earned the nickname of Old Ironsides during the war of 1812 when British cannonballs were seen bouncing off the ships wooden hull.
