British Baby Sub To Serve With U.S. Navy - This Royal Navy Midget submarine, XE-7 - a development of the 'midgets' which torpedoed the German battleship "Tirpitz" at Altenfjod in September, 1943 - will be joining the United States Navy this summer for exercises and demonstrations. The submarine, which carries a crew or five as opposed to the three man midgets which did good service against the Japanese and Germans during the late war, has been carrying out exhaustive trials here. Her spell of service with the United States Navy follows the normal policy of co-operation and exchange of technical information between the British and American Navies, British midget submarine technique is generally acknowledged to be in advance of anything attempted by the Navies of other World Powers. The XE-7 will move under her own power to Portland, Dorset, where she will be shipped aboard a larger vessel and taken to an American East Coast base.
