Date: ca. 1440.The figure of Justice, bearing a sword and globe, reflects the tradition of seated Virtues found in Medieval and early Renaissance model books. While the sheet's provenance remains uncertain, the framing lines have been viewed as evidence of Giorgio Vasari's ownership. Vasari, the sixteenth-century biographer and artist, added such devices to the sheets in his celebrated album of drawings. The figure recalls the Madonnas painted by the celebrated Florentine artist, Fra Angelico, and the drawing was probably executed by an artist in his circle.
