They were eventually removed by the police.Barclay's Bank building is one of those reported to have been set on fire during Saturday's outbreaks.Many people were killed and injured while buildings were pillaged and set on fire during the outbreaks of mob violence, in Cairo. "Mercury"Commander Welcomed By Wife After Record-Breaking Atlantic Trip -- Captain D. C. T. Bennett, commander of the "Mercury", welcomed by this wife on arrival at Southampton.'The "Mercury" upper component of the Mayo composite aircraft, arrived at Southampton after her maiden flight across the Atlantic and back, during which she set up five records. The "Mercury" touched water at the Southampton base exactly a week and 12 minutes after being launched from the back of the parent flying-boat "Maia" at Foynes, West Ireland, having in that time flown more than 8,000 miles, spending only 48 hours in the air. Olympians' Gift Berets : In London last week Australian women Olympians discarded their white felt issue hats, bought white berets with sprigs of wattle on the side, and went to Buckingham palace to be presented to the Queen.But even their new berets didn't please former Victorian amateur boxing competitor Mr. J. Gordon Jones, now a manufacturer in Sydney, when he saw a picture of the berets in The Herald.He made up a set of tam berets and basque berets in special white merino wool and sent them to Helsinki. The girls will receive one of each type on Tuesday. July 22, 1952.
