Fallen Caryatid Carrying an Urn 1883 Auguste Rodin French To preserve and multiply his original compositions, Rodin molded and cast reproductions of them in plaster and, less frequently, terracotta. This work was made from sheets of wet clay that had been pressed into molds and then fired. Although broken and repaired long ago, it is a precious record of Rodins expansive artistic production. Marble statuette of a slave boy with a lantern 1st or 2nd century A.D. Roman Adaptation of a Hellenistic work of the 3rd century B.C.This statuette is a good example of a well-known subject, the servant waiting to escort his master home. A Hellenistic terracotta statuette from the Fayum, Egypt provides the earliest known evidence for this type. The subject was popular in Roman times, when marble examples served as fountain sculptures in villa gardens in Pompeii and Syria, and bronze and silver variations were made into luxurious household objects such as inkwells and pepper-castors.. Candle-bearing angel (one of a pair) ca. 1677-79 Workshop of Giuseppe Mazzuoli Italian Related to the two marble angels flanking the tabernacle on the high altar of S. Agostino, Siena. Frà Carlo di Camillo Chigi contracted Francesco, Giovan Antonio and Agostino Mazzuoli to execute a marble ciborium with two angels for the high altar of S. Agostino. Although Giuseppe Mazzuoli is not specifically named in the document recording the commission, the strong influence of Bernini in the marble angels' compostion and style reflects Giuseppe's training in Rome. 1991.37a, b are ricordi, executed by Giuseppe's workshop either to present to the patron Frà Carlo or to retain for the workshop's own records.. Nude crouching figure wearing a wreath, large phallus broken away. Dimensions: H. 4.7 × W. 1.9 × D. 1.8 cm (1 7/8 × 3/4 × 11/16 in.). Date: 664-30 B.C..The small figure wearing a leafy crown crouches with his knees raised on either side of a large broken away area; the broken element was an oversized phallus based on traces and many parallels. The identity of the figure is unclear, but is likely connected with the complex of informal statuary including many ithyphallic figures in the Late and Ptolemaic Periods. St John of Nepomuk on a Cloud. This figurine portrays the 14th-century Bohemian martyr John of Nepomuk. It dates from shortly after Nepomuk was canonized in 1729. Johann Gottlieb Kirchner made the model of this figure. Even though he only worked at the factory for a few years, his designs were defining. He made human figures and groups, as well as large animal figures for the Japanese Palace in Dresden.

Of the three known examples, tow have traditionally been attributed to Capodimonte, while the third, in the Museo Stibbert, Florence, has recently been assigned to Ferdinand IV's Royal Factory at Naples. The subject matter, the sparely applied pastel colors, and the slightly wistful mood are all compatible with Capodimonte work, but the circular composition and the modeling of the figures are not. Instead of the robust Neapolitan peasants with their plump faces and wide feet, typical of Capodimonte sculpture, these figures are conspicuous for their lightness, with thin, almost pointed faces and feet. The center of production was the eastern Delta, in particular Bubastis and Tanis; this was an area where Near Eastern peoples had long been interwoven in the population; at this time it was also a center for the settlement of Libyan tribal peoples. Possibly these conditions influenced this particular production. Through their appearance, the figures all allude to the goddess Bastet. In particular, many details evoke the myth termed "The Return of the Faraway Goddess." The feline / leonine Bastet was angry with the god Re and left Egypt for Nubia. Children with dead game ca. 1756 Attributed to Robert Joseph Auguste French One of a pair with 1993.334.2, Children with Shellfish and Vegetables. The groups are models for the covers of silver tureens made by Auguste in 1756-57, acquired in 1769 by Christian VI of Denmark and remaining today in the Danish Royal Collection. This group was intended for an oval tureen. Auguste, who received his mastership as a Parisian silversmith in 1757 and became one of the principal silversmiths to the French court, is seen here in the roles of sculptor as well as silversmith. These detailed, deftly modeled terracottas offer rare insights into the working process of eighteenth-century silversmiths; although drawings often survive, their preliminary sketch-models tend not to..
