Re-Educating German P.O.W.'s -- The prisoners cook their own meals, and her is a scene in the cook-house as the mid-day meal is prepared. The political Intelligence Department of the Foreign office is working hard re-educating German prisoners of war at the "Pow University" established in Wilton Park, Beaconsfied. German captives, carefully graded after an intensive survey, have become students in an experiment which it is hoped will prove successful and useful to the future of the world. The idea of the Training Centre is to remove the prisoners' faith in the Nazi idea, to prove to them that might is not always right, to show them that the Nazi version of history for the past 50 years was false, and to explain the British way of life and institutions, not as an example to be slavishly copied, but in order that they may see how the democratic theories work. May 1, 1946.

When, at the end of 1944 the British loaf cast off some of its war-time greyness and became 80% white again, bakers all over the country felt that peace amenities were almost within sight. Books and manuscripts, running into millions, are kept in rooms with a strictly controlled temperature, and repairs are executed the moment any flame appear. This is the repair section, largely staffed by women workers. "The Soviet Government appears, deliberately to prevent intercourse between the Russian people and the rest of the World", said Mr. Attlee, British Prime Minister, when he addressed the Trades Union Conference at Brighton on October 24th last. Referring to"The Russian Tragedy", he added that the Russians wore subjected to "fantastic misrepresentations" about other nations. September 03, 1951.
