So-called "calimancos" were made of long-staple worsted wool, had a natural sheen and were long-wearing. These fabrics were used domestically and imported, especially to North America. Many bed quilts and quilted petticoats with plain calamanco linings have survived from the 18th century, but fewer of the striped patterns still exist today.. Length of wool Calimanco. The whitework coronet and shield indicate that the object may have been part of a court presentation costume. The coronet motif features nine pearls, which represents the rank of a viscount..
