The pattern consists of interlocking curls of tifles, which spring multifolding palm flowers, leaf voltues and asymmetrical acanthus leaves. The motives are made with feston stitches where recesses ensure nuances. The motifs are provided with relief contours and in particular around the flower hearts, thick, mostly C-shaped cordons have been used for extra relief. The cordons are decorated with picots. The motifs are connected by an irregular open bar with (rader) picots. The Jabot is finished on all sides with a straight edge with alternating single and double picots. Fanny (Hicks) LovejoyTextile Design with Rosettes Forming Hexagonal Shapes Around Swirls 1840 Anonymous, Alsatian, 19th century Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group, dated 1840, made in Mulhouse, Alsace, which was an important nineteenth-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. The design background consists of swirls rendered with stipples of light tan color over a dark reddish-brown base. Over the background, rosettes with five petals of light tan color, and with with five pearls forming the pistils, align forming hexagonal shapes around the swirls. The outline of the petals is of dark red color. The pearls are of white color and outlined in black.
